Au Contraire!

“Au contraire!” This is a phrase that I repeat a couple of different times a day when discussing spirituality with people. It grinds my gears down to a pulp when people say, “There’s nothing new under the sun!” “Everything that is being done has been done before!” “Waaaaaaaah!” **insert incessant bitching and moaning about the limitations of the Universe here**

Grrrr! That is so not true! When people say such things, especially if they are people who so-called believe in “spirituality”, the first thing I ask is: “How is that so? You must not believe in God or a higher power, then.”

This is the point in the story where everyone starts clutching their pearls and gasping at the fact that I would make such a statement. As well as, “Wow, harsh much, Val!” Really? Well, let’s explore this topic a bit more. It’s natural to make certain assumptions based on the things people say. That’s pretty much the point of communication, how logic works and why words are important. I love to, however, look beyond the clichéd and heavily overused statements to decipher what is actually being said. Over time, I have come to realize that people regurgitate a lot of crap they’ve heard a million times. Because of this, they honestly believe the things they say because they have never had to think about what they are saying or the implications of it.

Consider this: God is ABUNDANT. The Creator, The Most High, The One, God, The Divine, whatever you want to call Him/Her is ABUNDANT. Even though you know exactly what that word means, I want to effectively drive this home. The Creator is most abundant in such a way that we cannot fathom, much less comprehend what it means to behold all that He/She has created and facilitated the creation of on this Earth for us to enjoy. His/Her abundance is infinite and everlasting. Right?

Riddle me this, then. How can you believe in a power higher than yourself who is infinite and abundant, but NOT believe that He/She could PRODUCE that very same infinity and abundance for you to enjoy? That makes absolutely no sense! Yes, I said it.

There are new advances that continue to be made every single day in the sciences, the arts, technology, sociology, history, business, health, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Those are literally NEW processes, NEW discoveries and NEW inroads being made on the same old problems we have been discussing forever. My beloved iPhone, made by Apple, was a technological advancement made in cell phone use that had LITERALLY never been seen before. There were no phones on the market like it when they first came out. It was and still is a phone that revolutionized the cell phone market and changed the game forever.

As someone who worked for a major cell phone carrier who, at the time, was THE first carrier that unveiled the phone, I remember the FRENZY it created. I cannot tell you about how many extra and extra-early-as-hell-in-the-morning trainings I had to go to because of that phone. I can’t tell you about all of the late ass nights at work because of that brand new phone that no one had ever seen before. Even though the phone was just as new to me as it was to everyone else, I had to act like I had been using it for years and roll all of the features of it off of my tongue like water. There were times when I didn’t leave out of the building until an hour to three hours after we had closed because we had a house full of new activations that we had to service. All because of a new phone no one had ever seen before.

Because of all the technological advancements that Apple made by producing that phone, they are now literally the “gold standard” in cell phones and are a major shareholder in the cellphone industry. There are companies, corporations and products that came into the market strictly to produce, support and make accessories for none other than the iPhone.

Guess what, though! Before Steve Jobs put forth the iPhone…. **gasp**, it DIDN’T exist and had NEVER been done before. Everything invented on this plane was first a thought chilling in someone’s mind. When people say, “There’s nothing new under the sun!” and “Everything done has been done to DEATH!” it makes me angry. I feel the same when people say, “We can’t do it that new way. This is the way we have always done it.” That’s a whole other post. Why? Because none of those statements are true. Further, someone is blind as hell and needs to get their vision checked.

Once I get past the anger, I begin to feel sad for the person. I feel sad for them because I realize that they have a poverty or limiting mindset. They limit themselves in every facet of their lives. Due to living a life where they place these spiritual, intellectual, mental and social limitations on themselves, they then feel that everyone else has to follow suit and believe in those limitations as well. No señor.

If you haven’t noticed yet, I would like to put you on to some game. I am in NO way a woman who believes in intellectual or spiritual limitations of any kind. For anyone. Yes, even children. In my mind, I am already a best-selling author, a PhD, PEGOT, an accomplished actress, songwriter, singer, spiritual products guru and billionaire. Yes. All in the same lifetime. Everyone else just doesn’t know it yet. The way I see it, the only thing that eventually fails is our physical body. It gets sick. It dies. Everything else is fair game.

The moral of this post is a simple one: cast aside the poverty mindset. Throw away a limiting mindset and beLIEf about yourself and the world around you. When people say, “There’s nothing new under the sun”, challenge them fiercely. Why? Because YOU are the proof positive that what they say isn’t true and never has been.
