Happy Mercury Retrograde! You don’t see anything funny? Look, don’t judge me, but I have this thing down to a science now. For those of you who may not know. The planet Mercury, from our vantage point on Earth, looks as if it is going backwards for a period of time. This is called a Mercury Retrograde. For about three weeks along with two ten day (give or take) “shadow periods” one on the front end and one on the back end, things can get a little nutty. In Astrology, Mercury is the planet that rules communication, commerce, thinking and logic. It’s quite a tough one to contend with. Specifically, when you’re trying to get your work done and are using electronics to do it. This Mercury Retrograde phenomenon we experience about four times a year can cause some doozies. Electronics can slow all the way down and break. Delays and their accompanying frustrations are to be had all over the place. Old exes will re-emerge to see “what’s up with you”. It’s not a good time to purchase anything new. It’s not a good time to do anything life-changing. Nothing is absolute, OF COURSE…but in a Mercury Retrograde it’s safe to say you may have to take it back if you buy it and it has a plug. If you must have it, buy the best service plan that they sell.
I used to cringe at the thought of Mercury Retrogrades coming four times a year realizing I was supposed to almost count on the fact that my electronics would start acting crazy. I cannot express how much this pained me. I am a serious electronic fanatic. BestBuy is MY FAVORITE place in the whole wide world to be other than Chick-Fil-A. HA! I love electronics with every fiber of my being. I have a couple of iPhones, an iPad, a couple of laptops, a huge flat screen tv, a couple of different gaming systems, a wireless printer, a keyboard to control my television, some wireless speakers, a big, fancy treadmill and all other manners of innovative technology which would take me the rest of this post to name. The thought of my electronics crashing is literally THE only thing that could bring me to a melting, heaving, snotting puddle of tears these days. So naturally, the understanding of what Mercury Retrograde is was a terrifying concept at first. I want to let you in on a couple of secrets I have learned along the way.
- Mercury Retrograde, although extremely crazy, is ultimately a time to renew, redo and review old plans and happenings. Re-organize, reflect and do more things that start with “re-“. Any word that starts with “re-” is a good thing to do during the REtrograde. Look at old problems with a fresh pair of eyes. There’s to be a focus on the inside when planets go retrograde. So, during Mercury Retrogrades, we are supposed to go inside and focus on how we communicate with self. If you will.
- If one properly plans for a Mercury Retrograde, there won’t be as many hiccups as you think. And by planning, I mean, consistently making sure your electronics are backed up. Also, being patient when things are going crazy definitely helps.
- Everyone cannot lose in a retrograde. This is to say, every single person on the planet won’t be having a three-week long crap fest with their electronics and their life in general. Pay attention. There are certainly “losers” during this time. But every single person CANNOT lose. There are certainly winners during this period. Someone has to take risks. And those risks may pay off.
- Work delays into your schedule for the next couple of weeks. Just tell yourself they are going to happen and plan accordingly. Stave off frustration.
- Be very careful with the way in which you communicate over these next couple of weeks. All kinds of messages will be getting mixed up, misconstrued and misinterpreted. Expect that things will simply be lost in translation during this time. People are going to be getting pissed off more about what they thought you said than what you actually DID say.
- It’s not a great idea to start a brand new relationship during this time. It will either crash, or you will have to come back to it later. I have done this, unfortunately. Yeah, it wasn’t any fun.
- Be patient with all of the computer glitches, missed messages, undelivered notifications, blackouts and possible blue screens (Gawd NO!) that you may face. You’ll be tempted to have a coronary, but just breathe and keep on keeping on. Keep as positive an attitude as you can and you’ll be fine.
- The energy is UPON you, but ultimately your actions are determined by you. Yes, your electronics may be going crazy, but you are entirely responsible for your response. Things may get crazy. That doesn’t mean you have to get crazy with it.
- During this time, use intuition more than logic as much as possible.
- Slow down, meditate and journal. Be creative. Write, sing, draw, read, write and make music!
- *No texting and driving! Wear your seatbelt! Don’t allow yourself to be distracted while driving! Drive even MORE defensively than you normally would during this time! People’s signals are getting ALLL mixed UP!
There! Do you feel any better? Yes, these next three weeks will feel difficult. However, be like water and not like wood. Water can go with the flow. Whereas, if too much pressure or wind is put to wood it will just topple over. It’s okay to be a little fearful and uneasy. But just know that understanding the planetary energy that is upon you (not that it is going to take over your life), is literally 95% of the battle.
